Once again Soledad did a wonderful job of drawing attention to the plight of our American educational system. While she brought up several points that were downright disappointing, there is one issue that deserved more attention. The fact that this robotics competition was spawned by an entrepreneur and not the local, state, or national government should be appalling to everyone. It’s great for Arne Duncan to talk about the need for top notch students but where’s the money? We can’t keep thinking that this crisis is going to be solved by having billionaires like Zuckerburg, Oprah, Gates, & Kaman throw money at a state or create a competition. With 16% of youth even taking calculus, this documentary shows that this government has never been seriously interested in providing a quality education for all.
